The effects of queso blanco cheese containing Bifidobacterium longum was studied in companion dogs. Bifidobacterium longum significantly increased the beneficial intestinal bacteria and reduced harmful bacteria such as Enterobacteria and Clostridium. The study demonstrated that queso blanco cheese containing Bifidobacterium longum could be used as a health-giving additives having medicinal benefit for companion animals.

Based on a survey among veterinarians specialized in phytotherapy, marigold, St. John's Wort, chamomile and sage were proven to have antibacterial and antifungal effects. This makes them an new option for the treatment of pyoderma, otitis externa, infected wounds and dermatophytosis. Marigold, St. John's Wort and chamomile have wound-healing properties. St. John's Wort and Chamomile have anti-inflammatory and other beneficial effects. Due to the wide range of beneficial effects of these medicinal plants, in the future they may be used for the treatment of dermatologic diseases in dogs.
