    Overview

Severum Cichlid (Heros Efasciatus) is a freshwater tropical Cichlid native to the Amazon region in South America. It is very popular among aquarists, often in its gold colored variation rather than the wild-type olive green one. In the wild, Severum is found in slow-moving rivers, tributaries and floodplain lakes.

It’s most abundant in deeper, calm waters with a lot of submerged tree roots and branches. The aquarium variety reaches 20 – 25cm in length. It’s fairly mild-mannered for a cichlid of this size which makes it a good choice for a community of large, peaceful species.
